This stunning set of plates have been identified as Mintons, though are unstamped, and date to circa the 1850s. There are two stands available in the same pattern, as well as this set of six cake plates. This is an early design, which was replicated about 10 years later by Collingwood (see other stands) The plates are elaborately hand painted with the image of a crane in an aqua pond, surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. The cranes is painted in 3D relief. The quality of the artwork is superb, and the porcelain is also of the highest quality. One plate is completely broken in half, and reglued, which is taken into account with the price. One additional plate has some paint wear to a group of reeds in the centre. The other plates are all in good condition, with just minor wear to the gilt edging.
